International exchange in education, especially student
exchange at the stage of higher education, plays an extremely important role in
raising the levels of education and research in Japan and other countries, fostering
international understanding and a spirit of international cooperation, and in the
case of developing countries, cooperating in the development of human resources
in those countries.
For these reasons, the Ministry of Education, Science, Sport and Culture (MEXT)
encourages exchange among students by promoting a wide range of measures, including
setting for itself the target of accepting 100,000 foreign students annually by
the beginning of the 21st Century, increasing the number of MEXT scholarships for
foreign students, providing further support for self-supporting foreign students,
promoting short-term student exchange, providing accommodation for foreign students
through various means, and improving educational guidance in universities and other
institutions of higher education in Japan.
The Japanese Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture (MEXT) has offered
six different types of scholarship for students wishing to study in Japan since
1954. Applications for the above two scholarships are invited by the Embassy of
Japan in Pakistan during period 15 Feb - 10 Apr this year:
