The Japanese Film Festival organized by the Embassy of Japan in collaboration with the Pakistan National Council of the Arts kicked off at the National Art Gallery, Islamabad on 27th October, 2011 showcasing theatrical animations with English sub-titles. The festival was inaugurated by Mr. Hiroshi Oe, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan on Thursday, 27th October at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA). “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time”, was showcased as an inaugural film.
“The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” is a Japanese animated science fiction film directed by Mamoru Hosoda. This film was released in 2006 and won numerous awards including the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year. This film depicts a 17 year-old Makoto Konno who gains the ability to leap time towards past and immediately sets about improving her grades and preventing personal mishaps. However, she soon realizes that changing the past isn't as simple as it seems, and eventually, comes to rely on her new powers to shape the future of her and her friends. She learns how precious time is through the time travel.
The Japanese Film Festival is one of the most popular cultural events by the Embassy of Japan. This year the festival aims to introduce the Japanese Anime to the people of Pakistan.
This Japanese film festival is open to school children and the public on 1st & 2nd October, 2011 at the National Art Gallery Auditorium (PNCA), Islamabad. (End)
