-     Washington (NNI) Japan will put up about 14.1 billion yen in official development assistance to pay the salaries of all 82,000 police officers in Afghanistan as part of its effort to help rebuild the war-torn country, sources close to Japan-U.S. relations said. (The Nation, p-9)  

-     Article (Reuters) Japan’s current account balance swung to its largest deficit on record in January, with the income surplus tumbling about a third from a year earlier, adding to pressure on an already falling yen. (Daily Times, p-B4)

-     Tokyo (AFP) French bank BNP Paribus said Monday it was delisting its share from the Tokyo Stock Exchange, joining an exodus of foreign companies from Asia’s biggest bourse. (Daily Times, p-B5)
