Japanese Ikebana Exhibition & Demonstration Held at the Embassy of Japan
Islamabad: 6th December 2017
The Embassy of Japan in collaboration with the Floral Art Society of Pakistan (Islamabad Chapter) organized an Ikebana exhibition and demonstration at the residence of the Ambassador of Japan on 6th December 2017 to mark the 65th anniversary celebrations of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Pakistan.
Madam Rieko Kurai, wife of the Ambassador of Japan in Pakistan, together with the ladies of Pakistan floral art society made eye-catching ikebana arrangements while demonstrating their skills in this world- famous art of flower arrangement. Besides ikebana demonstration, Madam Kurai at the occasion also tried to enlighten the audience with multi-faceted culture of Japan through a short presentation.
Ikebana (Japanese art of flower arrangement), which literally means “flower kept alive”, developed into a distinct art form in Japan in the 15th century, and is now practiced all over the world, including Pakistan. The attention given to the choice of flowers and containers, the placement of branches, harmonization of the flower, its leaves and stems, and the branches, and the relationship of the arrangement to the container and the surrounding space, has sublimated this work into the art, distinguishing from simply decorative uses of flowers.
