 Japanese Government MEXT Undergraduate scholarships for the year 2026

Applications for MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship are Now OPEN

Last date to apply for the scholarship is 31st May 2025.

NOTE: Due to the large number of applications received every year, we are unable to confirm receipt of documents. Only the shortlisted candidates will be contacted for test and interview. Any inquiries made as to why someone has not been shortlisted will not be entertained. Only complete applications will be considered for the scholarship. Embassy will contact the shortlisted candidates by June-end.

Required Documents

The following documents (in given order) should be submitted before the deadline:
  1. Mark Sheet Form
  2. Application Form (1 original)
  3. Academic detail Mark sheet of Secondary and Higher Secondary School: (Matric/O Levels, Intermediate/A Levels) (1 copy each with original attestation)
Applicants must submit the following documents according to his/her academic background:
(a) Applicants who are attending, or have graduated from, a higher secondary school: an academic transcript from the higher secondary school;
(b) Applicants who are attending, or have already graduated from, a university: academic transcripts from both the higher secondary school and the university.
  1. Attested copy of certificate of graduation of school/university attended (1 with original attestation)
Applicants must submit the following documents according to his/her academic background:
(a) Applicants who are attending a higher secondary school: a certificate of prospective graduation from the higher secondary school;
(b) Applicants who have already graduated from a higher secondary school: a certificate of graduation from the higher secondary school;
(c) Applicants who are attending a university: a certificate of graduation from the higher secondary school (in addition, they must submit a certificate of enrollment.);
(d) Applicants who have already graduated from a university: certificates of graduation from both the higher secondary school and the university.
  1. Recommendation Letter from either a class teacher or principal of last school attended (1 original)
  2. Attested copy of Certificate of enrollment from current educational institution (if applicable) (1 original)
  3. Hope certificate issued by the Institute (for students whose final result is expected by August 2024) (1 original)

NOTE:
  • Submitted documents will not be returned.
  • Application should be unstapled (assembled with paper clip) and printed on A4 size paper. 
  • Certificates & documents, other than those mentioned above, will not be considered.
  • In principle, applicants should be willing to carry out their academic studies in Japan in Japanese.
