The Government of Japan Funded Project for Special Children in District Faisalabad inaugurated

Islamabad: 7th November 2017

Mr. Junya Matsuura, Minister, Embassy of Japan in Pakistan, on Tuesday, 7th November 2017 inaugurated the extension of Al-Masoom Center for Special Children, run by Tanzeem-al-Lissan, a non-governmental organization in District Faisalabad. The Embassy of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Program, provided financial assistance of US$97,359 for the project.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by students of the Center, their parents, staff members, local government officials and supporters of the Center.

The Government of Japan provided financial assistance in 2012 for the construction of ground floor of the Al-Masoom Center, where more than 360 students who are intellectually and physically challenged, are receiving quality education and rehabilitation support. With increased needs, the Center required additional space to accommodate more children. Against this background, the Government of Japan has contributed US$97,359 for adding first floor to the building where more educational and rehabilitation support could be provided.

Mr. Junya Matsuura, while speaking at the inaugural ceremony, congratulated special children, their parents and the NGO representatives for timely and successful completion of the project. Mr. Matsuura underlined the importance of quality education and rehabilitation support that lead to the welfare of special children and betterment of society. He also expressed his hope that this project would not only help special children in unleashing their true potential but also in strengthening the existing friendly relations between the people of Japan and Pakistan.

Note: The GGP Program is an initiative of the Japanese government with the belief that in consideration of the enormity of the challenges being faced by the world today, development assistance should not only be limited to governments, but also be channeled to the grassroots level through civil society organizations. Since it began in 1989, the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan has supported more than 370 projects under the GGP Program, with a contribution of more than 2.7 billion Japanese Yen.
